🌌 4D Space-Time Elevator
by @mrinreality on X
This visualization renders a 4-dimensional hypersurface projected into our 3D space using advanced differential geometry and complex analysis. The core mathematics involve:
f(x, y, z, w) = (x² + y² + z²)^power · exp(hyperbolic · w) + φ · cos(space-time · t)
- Quaternion Rotation: 4D rotations using quaternion algebra to smoothly navigate the tesseract space
- Golden Ratio (φ ≈ 1.618): Embedded throughout for aesthetically optimal proportions and harmonic resonance
- Stereographic Projection: Maps the 4D manifold onto a 3D sphere for visualization
- Minkowski Space-Time: The
w dimension represents time, creating a relativistic space-time geometry
🎚️ Interactive Parameters
- Power: Controls the radial polynomial degree of the hypersurface (default: φ²)
- Hyperbolic: Exponential warping factor creating saddle-like geometries
- W-Slice: Position along the 4th dimension—your "elevator" through time
- Space-Time Factor: Temporal oscillation amplitude linking 3D space to the time dimension
- Detail: Ray-marching iteration count (~φ × 100 for optimal rendering)
🎮 Controls
- Mouse/Touch Drag: Rotate camera (orbit controls)
- Mouse Wheel / Pinch: Zoom in/out
- Arrow Keys: Navigate W-dimension and space-time coupling
- Spacebar: Toggle auto-rotation
- M Key: Toggle menu
- R Key: Reset to default view
🌟 Physical Interpretation
Imagine a being that exists in 4D space-time viewing a 3D "slice" of reality. As you adjust the W-Slice parameter, you're moving through time like riding an elevator through floors of a building—each "floor" is a 3D snapshot at a different temporal coordinate.
The Elevator Mode automatically oscillates through this 4th dimension, creating an animated journey through space-time, revealing hidden structures that exist outside our normal 3D perception.
Distance Metric: ds² = dx² + dy² + dz² - c² · dw²
(Lorentzian signature for time-like dimension)
🔬 Advanced Features
- Ray Marching: Real-time volumetric rendering using signed distance fields (SDF)
- Adaptive Detail: Automatically reduces complexity on lower-end devices to maintain 60 FPS
- Chromatic Aberration: Color dispersion simulating light bending in curved 4D space
- Glow & Inversion: Artistic effects revealing internal structure and negative space
"The fourth dimension is not merely a mathematical abstraction—it's a doorway to understanding the fabric of reality itself."
